An internship with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting. 

  

As an Advertising and Business Development Intern at the National MS Society, you will play a crucial role in growing print and digital advertising for Momentum Magazine, our award-winning national magazine with a readership of more than 1 million.  

 

You will work closely with the Director of Paid Media to build sales processes and foundational documentation, identify new opportunities to increase magazine revenue, research high potential prospects and develop relationships with advertisers.   

 

This remote paid internship presents a unique opportunity for an individual to gain hands-on experience in business development and advertising sales for a national nonprofit magazine that engages people living with MS, their families, caregivers and health professionals.  

 

This is a remote paid internship available for Summer 2024.

 

What You Will Do:

 

40% - Sales Process and Department Development and Documentation Creation: 

  • Collaborate with the Content Strategy team and Director of Paid Media to design and implement effective processes for the Momentum Advertising team. 
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of an efficient and scalable sales process for both print and digital ads. 
  • Create comprehensive documentation that outlines sales and prospecting processes and procedures. 
  • Ensure documentation for ad placement processes are clear, accurate, and serves as a valuable resource for team members. 

 

30% - Strategy Development: 

  • Work closely with the Director of Paid Media to develop a targeted outreach strategy for potential advertisers that aligns with the goals. 
  • Research and identify potential business opportunities, partnerships, and advertising channels to enhance revenue growth.

30% - Outreach Execution: 

  • Actively participate in outreach activities to engage potential clients and build awareness of the new advertising department. 
  • Utilize various communication channels to promote our advertising solutions and establish meaningful connections.  
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team to assist with and learn how the negotiation processes with advertisers works, while also contributing to the growth and success of Paid Media. 
  • Gain exposure to contract negotiation and learn effective strategies for achieving mutually beneficial agreements.

Business Development Experience - Acquire practical skills in identifying and pursuing business opportunities within the media industry. 

 

Sales Expertise - Develop hands-on experience in executing effective sales strategies for both print and digital advertisements. 

 

Business Process Development - Contribute to the development of sales processes and foundational documentation. 

What You Will Bring:

  • Currently pursuing a degree as a Junior or Senior in College or any year in graduate school 
  • Open to all majors with a preference for the following: business management, sales, marketing, advertising 
  • Ability to work 12 weeks, 15 hours/week.
  • Interest in sales, business development, advertising or marketing. 
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute in a dynamic environment. 
  • Access to reliable internet (required for remote or hybrid positions) 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software for e-mail, document, and spreadsheet creation/management – specific training will be provided.

The hourly rate for internships is $15, except when noted differently above OR where local minimum wage exceeds that figure, in which case the hourly rate will be the higher of the two. If you are unable to be paid for this internship due to outside funding or other directives from your educational institution – please let your hiring manager know AFTER you have been identified as the final candidate.
