Business Development and Direct Sales Intern--START/END FLEXIBLE, summer only, option PT school year if local

THIS IS AN IN PERSON INTERNSHIP IN TEMPE, ARIZONA AND IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION. START AND END DATES FLEXIBLE AROUND YOUR SCHOOL SCHEDULE--SUMMER FULL TIME POSITION, PT SCHOOL YEAR OPTION--$17-18/hr plus commission. This position is full time Summer ideally 6-3 Monday-Friday from end of school (May) until school starts in the fall (August). Some flexibility can be made if discussed in interview. Part time continuing option during the school year for candidates who perform well in the summer (tuition reimbursement available for those continuing through the school year). Long-term opportunities are available.

The Business Development and Direct Sales Intern role is a temporary position designed to fit the schedule of a college student seeking hands-on sales and business administration experience during the summer. Although temporary, there is a strong possibility one or more interns will be offered the ability to transition into a full-time, career-track role. The Business Development and Direct Sales Intern will be primarily responsible for increasing new business sales of K-12 textbooks and workbooks to schools in the United States.

The person in this position will work closely with our inside sales manager, and sometimes regional purchasing managers, who will provide direction, expertise, and supervision/training. They all have over 10 years of sales experience in a variety of fields and 2-8 years of experience working with our company in inside and outside sales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prospect new clients and initiate relationships with key decision-making individuals within K-12 academic institutions across the US.
  • Discover business drivers of potential buyers and build Walker Bookstore brand awareness.
  • Map clients’ buying procedures in an industry where such procedures vary significantly from account to account.
  • Meet or exceed KPIs of outbound calls, outbound marketing emails, and new contacts added to a CRM database while maintaining accurate notes and activity trails.
  • After adequate training - Mange the sales cycle from prospecting to closing independently.
  • Provide input and assistance on improving processes / cross-train in other departments to become more familiar with challenges faced in a growing business.
